Smashing Good Time!

I have returned to Smashwords!

This means some of my books are now available directly on Smashwords and will over the coming week become available on Apple, Barnes and Noble, and Kobo.

Now for the caveats.

Because of the way Kindle Unlimited works, I cannot have my books in both KU and available for sale elsewhere. So, over the next couple of months, already released books will be coming off of KU. If you’re a KU reader and still interested in reading them, you’ll have to grab them soon. I’d prefer to be able to do both, but at this time Amazon does not allow it.

New releases will still be exclusive to Amazon for 90 days, for the time being. I’ll re-evaluate the decision over the coming months. I hope my readers will understand this was not an easy decision. I’m still not sure if I’m making a mistake, but we’ll see.

New Novella! SugarSwapped Sevtlana

Today, or possibly yesterday I’m not sure when it actually went live, I released my latest story, SugarSwapped Svetlana. This is the first in my SugarSwapped series, a series of stories coming out over the next couple months. Each story has two parts, the overall story and the standalone about a body swap.

SugarSwapped involves private investigator Garret Sanders discovering a conspiracy so ludicrous he cannot believe it, young women are stealing the bodies of older, wealth men. In each story, Garret learns a little more and steps closer to danger.

Svetlana, the first in the SugarSwapped series, starts when Garret is hired to find a missing husband, who isn’t missing. In fact, he’s delivering the best sex of the wife’s life. Which she insists is proof it’s not him. Garret finds a young woman with an amazing tale to tell, she claims to be the missing husband!

So that’s a brief synopsis. I probably give too much away, but in erotica people seem to need what’s in the book before they’ll read it. Let me know if you think I’m wrong, I’d love to try to be more coy in my blurbs.

Going Wide

And I’m not talking about over-eating. Um, stupid Halloween candy sales.

No, I’m talking about adding my books to other stores. Previous to today, I was exclusive on Amazon.

Why would I be exclusive on Amazon? Because Amazon is seductive. They offer Kindle Unlimited. This allows people who subscribe to read all the books they want, that are part of the program. For an author, this means you have to be exclusive to Amazon. No offering up your KU works any place else. The KU reads count towards ranking, which begets more sales and more reads. More money.

However, being exclusive with Amazon started leaving me with a sick feeling. What if I make a mistake and get kicked off? This is unlikely, but it’s happened to people. I just didn’t like the whole eggs in one basket, if you’ll pardon a cliche.

So I made the decision to try and go wide. This may or may not last. It will take time to evaluate and time for my KU exclusives to come off their exclusive period. And, as I discovered today, time to convert the old manuscript into a different format.

But as of now, Enticing Makeover is on Smashwords and from there, I hope a few other places assuming everything goes well.

I suppose I’ll lose readers. Lots of readers. But I hope to gain new ones too. I’m early enough in my writing experiment where at least it won’t destroy me if this goes south.
